Cockroach attack!

The guy sitting opposite me on the tram this morning had a cockroach crawling out of his bag. Caught it out of the corner of my eye. He then flicked it on the ground but it kept going back to him, must be his pet or something! Disgusting!

Am I now a Mac and not a PC?

So I bought a computer the other day and after putting together the components I had to install an operating system. The obvious choice was Windows 7 since we already own a copy of it and the installation went quite smoothly. I then started loading the usual utilities you need for everyday use and what annoyed me first was the number of updates you have to download after the initial installation. I was in the middle of downloading my digital copy of MS Office and while I was out of the room Windows decided that it needed to reboot and I had to start the download again.

The next challenge was to install new games NJLA bought which are in Chinese. By default Windows is able to display Chinese characters in file names and in text files. But when I opened an application in Chinese it displayed all the text in funny characters. After spending some quality time on the Internet I finally worked out how to run Chinese programs properly.

I'm now happily typing on my Mac Pro where things just works. Why can't things just work in Windows? Why does it have to be so hard?

Nike+ GPS App

It's pretty cool, used it for the first time yesterday. As you can see you can tell how far you went, where you went, and your pace during the run. I can easily tell where I was struggling up a hill!

Melbourne Marathon - 10K Run

Doing the 10K run this Sunday, hope the weather will be OK. Had a trial run today after work running from city back home. Damn there are too many hills in Melbourne!

New Facebook Profile Page

Looks funky! Not sure what else you can do to it though.

Lazy or not?

Why do people wait 5 minutes for a tram then get off at the next stop to get to the train station? It's not raining either so why not just walk down the road?

First win for the Gunners

Stayed up to watch the game last night and while it was not totally convincing 3 points is 3 points so can't really complain. Arshavin took advantage of some comical error by the Swansea keeper but he did finish it from a very tight angle so it was not all based on luck.

Defensively it was quite a good performance by the Gunners and Mertesacker was quite a giant on his debut. Together with Koscielny I thought they did quite well. Gibbs though was a bit disappointing and I thought he got bumped off the ball a bit too easily at times.

In midfield Frimpong was quite impressive but he got tired and probably gave the ball away once too many times in the second half so got taken off. Arteta was impressive at times and linked up quite well with his new team mates. Arshavin I must say actually looked like the player when he first joined the team a couple of years back, lets hope he continue to play this way. Walcott was a bit disappointing and I'm not sure what he will do if he ever lose his pace.

RVP was unlucky not to score and Chamakh almost scored with one of his first touches. It was amusing when he came on and didn't have anyone to give the captain armband to so he kept it for the remainder of the game. It turned out to not be that great a deal but I think Arsenal needed a leader in the game as Swansea kept pushing towards the end.

As a newly promoted side I thought Swansea played really well and really gave Arsenal a fright especially towards the end. They have quite a few good players so good luck to them for the rest of the season.

Hopefully with Forehead (Gervinho) and Song coming back from suspension Arsenal will be a more efficient and dangerous unit. If they can get a few wins together in the coming weeks then maybe the season will be back on track and hopefully we might win something this year!

Google 2-Step Verification

Nothing is too secure nowadays on the Internet so Google has introduced 2-step verification on your Google account. The link will basically tell you what you need to do to set it up and to be honest it is pretty simple. It is a bit more troublesome initially because any device/program you have setup to access your Gmail or anything that uses your Google account will have to have its password changed (once only) but it's probably worth the hassle in the long run for the extra protection.

There is a phone app that generates a random access key when you login from a new/unknown location which works pretty much like the one you get from some of the banks. I used it today when I login to my account from work and I think unless you clear your browser cookies or authenticated sessions you can have the authentication stored for 30 days (I chose not to do this at work though since it's not really my laptop).

Blogger App on iOS

Typing this on the phone so let's test it out to see if it is any good.

The UI looks OK and it's pretty easy to use. Although I don't think it has access to my existing labels.

Now I can blog on the go, maybe can kill some time on the daily tram ride.

Blogger Gets New Look

Looks like Google is making everything look like Google+. It looks like it has even integrated it with Analytics, now you can get all kind of stats for your blog. Interestingly it looks like Google has been keeping tabs on your blog traffic from the start even though you may not have ready access to them (or at least I wasn't aware that you could gain access to it). I'll play with it some more when I have some spare time!

So much action

It was amazing to wake up to 5 new signings in 2 days. It was also great to hear we cut a few dead wood as well. However, we have also let go Bendtner, who himself thinks he is the greatest player ever lived. Sad that he only went out on loan, we might see him again next year. Anyway, well done Mr Wenger!

RSI

Told by physio I have RSI. Need to change my habit apparently. Started using the mouse with my left hand. Also need to sit better at work.

No movement

Still nothing from Mr Wenger. Now that he is banned from the touchline in the crucial UCL game at Udine I think the Gunners will struggle. It might be the wake up call they need though to realise they need to spend some money to get quality experienced players. I don't care how much quality you have brought into the team because as you said, they need time to shine, what you don't have now is time itself. The clock is ticking...

Tumblr

Since I created a page there I have random people liking my posts and following me, not sure if I like it.

Arsenal 2011/2012

Back in Australia means I don't have much opportunities to watch the football live due to the time difference but since yesterday's game was an early I was able to follow the commentaries at least on the internet. Given it was against Liverpool I thought we could at least get a draw but to my disappointment it was not to be. I guess we didn't have much of a chance in a week when we sold our best player, have 2 players suspended, and a whole lot of injuries, but on paper, the team didn't really look too bad.

In Szczesny we have finally got a decent keeper, TV5 is now back as our centre back, Nasri surprisingly was in the team, and RVP was playing up front. Sure, our bench was a bit light but people need to step up to the plate. Although I haven't seen the highlights yet despite the scoreline I don't think we actually played too bad. Unfortunately for Wenger though the fans don't want to see pretty football any more, we need to see results. With the money we received for Cesc we really should be out there buying someone with experience. The bench yesterday had 4 players 20 years or below and when you are struggling you really want your experience players to step up and help guide your youngsters through. Sadly for the Gunners, their experience players like Arshavin was no where to be seen. Following the game online I see 'Arshavin gave the ball away', then I refreshed and saw the same thing thinking hey it didn't refresh but no, he really did give the ball away again inside 5 minutes.

Since it is still the start of the season, I don't think we should panic yet. We do have a lot of good young players and Miyaichi could be the next Asian superstar if he is given the chance. We really need to beat Udinese though to get into the Champion's League otherwise I don't know what the fans will do, maybe another riot in North London is on the cards! Mr Wenger though, has 10 days to spend some money and I really think he should just break the bank and buy an established star. Perhaps he should looking into Wesley Sneijder, Inter probably needs the money, and he can probably have the same impact as Dennis Bergkamp did back in the days! Also getting a star name under the noses of Man Utd should make the fans out there happier.

Experiment

Playing with Tumblr and successfully moved all the posts over, however it lost all the comments.

Getting old

And slow... maybe I'm just unfit at the moment. Need to rediscover my football skills. Still scoring goals and passing is still there, just don't know where all the tricks have gone when I'm running with the ball. Hopefully after a few more games I will rediscover the touch.

Toilet Etiquette

If there are 3 urinals, why use the middle one? If all 3 are empty you have to use either the left or the right, never the middle! Selfish selfish people!

Chicken Rice Nazi

Officially known as Oriental Wok is a little Malaysian place in Melbourne CBD. I went there today for the first time in 3 years and I couldn't remember how much it was back then but it now costs $9.90 for what I now think as a rather ordinary dish because I've probably had better.

She was never known for her level of service. I went with some interstate colleagues once and they were after a receipt for expense claim and her response was too busy but reluctantly wrote one later on.

Today as I pulled out a $10 note and 90 cents in coins, I first gave her 90c and then the $10 expecting $1 back. She didn't say anything and dumped my 90c on the table and came back with 10c change.

True story.

People at work need to chill

Well probably one of them need to but he is stressing everyone out. If you try to understand the issues rather than concentrating only on the metrics (because your ar$e is on the line) you may live longer...

Am I too impolite

Now that I catch the bus more I notice people say thanks to the bus driver when they get off. I even see people do that on the tram (in the suburbs not the city). What's with that? I say thanks when they wait for me when I have to run for it but never really thought about saying thank you normally when I get off. Don't really get it yet.
